SHENANDOAH PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP -April 17,18,19, 2009

We shall meet at OLD RAG PHOTOGRAPHY, which is a neat Photography Gallery nestled in the heart of the very artsy town of Sperryville Virginia. This gallery is located just a few miles from the Shenandoah National Park where we shall be photographing beautiful sunrise and sunsets, water falls, flowers, and wildlife. The gallery is our new base of operation in the Blue Ridge Mountains and we shall hold classes and pre shoot meetings either indoors or outdoors depending upon the weather. The Gallery overlooks a beautiful stream which we can access through a large deck. There is also lots to photograph right in, and around Sperryville. Our official guide, Hunt Harris, has arranged for Blue Ridge participants to get into beautiful locations not generally given access to the public. There are bed and breakfasts, rental houses, and several restaurants right in the main part of town. Book early. PLEASE CHECK THE LINKS BELOW FOR MAKING YOUR ROOM RESERVATIONS. BOOK EARLY AS THIS IS A POPULAR AREA.

As the Skyline Drive winds and twists it way around the mountains of Shenendoah park, you’ll find yourself in the middle of close to 200,000 acres of incredible seasonal landscapes with which develop your photographic skills.

We have found and photographed some of the most scenic areas for both sunsets and sunrises.  Early mornings and later evenings will find you waiting with your cameras and lenses in the ready, to record these beautiful vistas.shen images

Big Meadows, which is known world wide for whitetail deer and their fawns should present you with wonderful opportunities to photographically capture these beautiful creatures.  Big Meadows will also provide opportunities to photograph wild flowers and butterflies, developing your telephoto and macro skills, and learn how to modify your lighting with and without flash.

As we make our way on the many trails, shen flower you’ll find pink and yellow lady slippers as well as many other flowers, as well as water falls, butterflies, mountain streams.

Hunt Harris, who has become our official guide lives and breaths all of the wonderful secrets of the area, and he will be taking us to areas that the public normally DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TOO.

What a great place to enhance your photographic skills, make new friends, and come away with incredible pictures and memories.

A G E N D A

Things will get rolling on Friday afternoon at noon.  We shall have a social hour with snacks and soft drinks. . You will  meet the other workshop participants, your teachers and guides and talk about what to expect over the next few days.  Friday evening we shall be shooting the sunset, if weather permits.

Saturday will be a long day. We’ll be in the field early, way before the first light of day so we can capture the beautiful mountain light.  We’ll stay out till breakfast time,  and then head back to the classroom to discuss the morning and what comes next.  We head back out to the field right after our morning meeting and photograph throughout the day.  When we are finished shooting we shall arrive back at the gallery to go over images your images and have a discussion about those images.

Sunday morning, we shoot early.  Again weather permitting we shall be out there to capture a beautiful mountain sunrise.  We shall grab a quick breakfast and head out to capture some of the local area beauty.  After all of our shooting is done, we shall head back to the gallery for a final rap up.

We can’t control our surrounding conditions and, certainly, weather and other conditions are crucial to holding strictly to any agenda.  Because of of this there will be times that we have to make quick changes to original plans, but fear not.  There is always a plan b and c.
