Mike Parker - Instructor
Mike has been an active outdoor photographer for over 40 years. He is currently concentrating on scenics, macro photography, and birding along the Virginia part of the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay where he spends nearly all of his free time.
He retired from the US Air Force after 26 years of distinguished service, many of which were directly involved in photographic reconnaissance systems, which deepened his interest in creative photography and sharpened his technical expertise.
Mike’s work is on
display in homes and offices around the world and his images have won awards in
many varied competitions, salons, and museums.
After trying a number of various rangefinder systems in the very early years, he finally settled on an Asahi Pentax SLR system during his time in Viet Nam. Following some experimentation with high end prosumer digital cameras in 2001, he converted to Nikon digital SLR when he decided to “go digital” in 2004. He rarely shoots film these days but remains loyal to Pentax for film based systems and Nikon for digital. An old Tachihara 4x5” view camera still sits in a corner in his home office in Maryland.
He has been teaching workshops on the Eastern Shore for several years and is joining the Blue Ridge Workshops growing staff of excellent photographers and educators
