The war memorials in Washington DC represent a great many marches into history and provide a place for people world wide to honor those who fought to preserve freedom.
These monuments, these memorials also represent some of the finest artistic endeavors of those who painstakingly created them.
Geoff Archer, who is teaching this photography field trip will educate you and work with you and show you the best way to determine compositions and use creative lighting so that you will have photographs expressing your personal artistic approach.

The purpose of this workshop will be to show students various ways to photograph the three major war memorials on the National Mall. We will cover white balance, composition, controlling depth of field and ways to control what is in and out of the compositions. Tripod use will be a must for this workshop and a remote release is highly recommended. Lens recommendations will be Wide angle, wide zooms to mid telephoto length, or wide and mid range prime lenses. Traveling lightly is recommended . There is considerable walking involved and the lighter your load the more comfortable you will be.
Introduction:
Shutter speed, aperture, ISO and white balance selection will be covered.Techniques for including iconic backgrounds, minimizing background clutter, including or excluding people will also be covered. At each shooting venue there will be a brief overview of the subject and specific ways to approach it. We shall provide flash lights for painting with light as well as reflectors for modifying the available light on your subjects. We shall be covering a lot of photographic miles as well as ground miles. Dress comfortable and make sure you have comfortable shoes. This is a rain or shine worishop.
