Corn Dogs, Deep-Fried Mac and Cheese, and Root Beer Floats: Report from the Virginia State Fair
Wow! If you weren’t with us this past weekend for our workshop at the Virginia state fair, you missed a great weekend. We had lots of deep-fried food, barbecue, homemade ice cream and, of course, unusual and beautiful subjects for our photographs.
State fairs always provide a variety of interesting subjects for a photographer and the Virginia state fair was no different. We photographed the mounted shooting competition and midway on Friday, the BMX bike demonstration, pumpkin carver, racing pigs, food vendors, and games on Saturday, and the livestock, flying dogs, and mutton bustin’ on Sunday. (Mutton bustin’ is just like bronco riding except it with lambs and for kids weighing less than 60 lbs.)
Here are a few images from our weekend:

If you do make it to the fair, I highly recommend the root beer floats and the deep-fried mac and cheese!
